Major Appropriation for Building Project

We are excited to announce the award of $1,000,000 in a congressionally directed appropriation to build a new clinic offering substance use treatment and primary care in downtown Walla Walla. This project at 3 W Poplar converts a warehouse to a state-of-the-art clinic, classroom, social services, and case management facility. Outpatient services at this site will include the following: substance use treatment, individual and group counseling, a small food pantry, case management, STI, HIV, and hepatitis C testing, and prevention education.

The 14,400 square-foot facility was built in 1930 and will eventually house additional case management offices, a mobile clinic, administration offices, and a classroom suite to serve as BMHTH’s new Center for Rural Responses to Substance Use. This federal appropriation was sponsored by Senator Maria Cantwell and is the latest major award for BMHTH, following a $500,000 Washington State capital budget award in 2022. That state award was sponsored by State Representative Skyler Rude and State Senator Perry Dozier and was directed to exterior renovation and upgrade efforts for the building.

“We are thrilled to have this support to expand our care practice in Walla Walla,” said Everett Maroon, BMHTH’s Executive Director. “This facility will offer our model of integrated care with greater capacity to provide walk-in and same-day service for opioid treatment, hepatitis C treatment, and to get people connected to care. I’m excited to see what good we can do with the building.”

BMHTH and the City of Walla Walla are nearing the end of the construction planning and permitting phase. Bidding is likely to be announced by the middle of March.
